Most of the community development FM stations use specially designed, solar powered, 12 volt, low watt, FM transmitters. These high tech yet simple transmitters are designed specifically for the harsh Mali environment with dust and heat. Eight other larger FM stations use the 250 Crown transmitters. Again, partnership is the key as the local Malian church partners with their community in having these local community based FM radio stations. With 60% of the programming time given to community deveopment and 40% of programming reserved for the church, these local FM stations are changing communities.
